What's happening now? The recent 2022 United States Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has triggered hundreds of billions of dollars in investment in clean technology. It will not only determine whether the U.S. meets its emissions reduction goals but also shape the global economy for decades to come. In October, California passed new legislation called the Climate Accountability Package to improve the transparency and standardization of emissions reporting for large companies. In November and December this year, world leaders, policymakers, activists, and corporate leaders will convene in Dubai for the twenty-eighth United Nations Conference of Parties, known as COP28. Conference leaders have set a goal of tripling the deployment of renewable power generation and doubling energy efficiency are among the most important levers to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
